Music School this Fall

Music programs in guitar, piano, keyboards, violin, voice, hand drumming and drum set, flute, saxophone and clarinet, theory, improve, master class guitar, jazz ensembles and Greek Bouzouki  will continue to be offered at the academy under the mentorship of professional musicians.

Studies have shown that sending children to music school complements their academic studies. Music lessons improve children’s memory, spatial understanding, mathematics and verbal memory. This is another good reason why children should be sent to music school, other than fulfilling their musical interests. Music school is not only a fun and good way for children to de-stress, but it will also help them in their academic studies.

The Elite Music Academy has lesson coordinators who will match students with professional instructors to assist them on their music interests and goals.  The academy is also offering a special instrument rental program for its students, with the first month rental for free. By doing so, the academy is working on a coordinated effort with the parents of their students to ensure the success of the aspiring musicians. After all, the success of its students reflects back on the academy.

Drum Soloing

With the huge success of the Toronto Music Camp, we have decided to create a special 8 week course for our percussion campers this fall. This special course will get you started on the proper ways to create a unique drum solo that will build on itself, and impress the crowd. Playing a drum solo is the most impressive way for drummers to express themselves.

Areas of Study Include:

A) Note Values: Analysis of note values and using them to create syncopation and fundamental soloing principles.

B) Sticking Patterns: Using combination’s of right and left in single and double stroke variations

C) Groupings: Combination’s of hand and foot groupings. Being able to move around the drumset. Grouping ideas will be given with different note values. ie. eight notes, sixteenth notes, triplets etc.

D) Soloing Over A Vamp Or Ostinato: Ideas developed up to this point will be applied to a set ostinato (ie. a re-occurring syncopated pattern lasting one or two bars). A common example occurs in latin music. The piano plays the ostinato and the drums/percussion solos over it. Ostinato’s will be given in different styles (ie. Rock, Latin, Jazz etc.)

TMC Goes All Year Round

The huge success of the Toronto Music Camp has prompted its mentors to push for the extension of the rock and percussion camps for the rest of the year after signing up 140 young rockers during the summer. The last week of the camps for the summer will be on Aug. 9 -13 at the Holy Name Catholic School at 690 Carlaw Ave., Toronto.

Young people with musical ambitions will find involvement in the camps an excellent opportunity to be mentored by professional musicians backed by years of training and live performances. In store for the Fall classes are one-hour jam sessions to be held weekly where students are instructed on the rudiments of forming and joining a band, and on learning how to play cover songs and originals. The term will culminate with the youth bands recording at Studio 92, or with  a scheduled live performance.

In an effort to reach out to more youngsters, Elite Music Academy, which founded the Toronto Music School, is offering the jam sessions at a competitive price of $25 per lesson, which will be given  for 8 weeks to cover one term. The jam sessions are open to children and teenagers 10 to 17 years of age.
