Reading Music
by Justin Mahoney
If you are new to reading music on guitar, you may want to pick up a method book such as Berklee Book 1. It starts from the very beginning, step one, but also moves along at a faster pace than most methods so that you aren’t just playing 3 note melodies in the open position for weeks… If you can kind of read already, or looking for something to read that may be a little more challenging, check out Bach’s two part inventions. It uses different keys and time signatures, and the beautiful thing about the Bach pieces is even if you play them super slow (which you should if you aren’t a good reader), they still sound musical. If you consider reading to be work, you might as well enjoy the sound of the music.
