Improving your picking:

One of the best things you can do to improve your picking is to work on your upstrokes.  If your upstrokes are strong, your playing will sound tighter. Try playing some alternate picking patterns, putting a heavy accent (louder) on the upstroke.  If you can work this into your practice regime, you should experience an improvement in your picking.
