Listening

by Neil Whitford

Listening is key when trying to learn new music.  If you are learning off a TAB or simply from a recording, it benefits you greatly to have a complete concept of what you are trying to play before you even put your fingers on the instrument.  Think about a song you really know well, and you get stuck in your head from time to time.  What kind of clarity is there?  Can you hear each individual part or just the guitar part?  How long does each section last?  If some of these answers are unclear, go back and listen again.  You pick up new information every time you listen to a song with a new goal in mind.
