Andrew Mason (Bass/Guitar)

Andrew Mason [M.A., B.F.A. Music, Diploma in Jazz Studies] is a talented and creative multi-instrumentalist [guitar, bass, percussion] and composer with broad stylistic interests and a wealth of professional experience.  Mason began his career in Halifax, N.S. as a freelance guitarist, playing in styles and settings ranging from jazz combo, to big band, to Celtic folk-pop, and was musical director of the house jazz gig at Tomasino’s Ristorante for two years.  Since being in Toronto, Mason has played with a variety of musical ensembles and artists across a broad spectrum of styles, some of which include: Samba Squad, Batucada Carioca, Nosso Trio [Brazilian music], Red Light Customers, Funk in the Trunk, Route 66, RhythmLuv Connection [Top 40], singer/songwriters Aline Morales, Luanda Jones, Mark Cassidy and Lesley Young, the Afro-beat inspired funk of Ainike, Samba Porrada [Brazilian funk/rock].  Mason leads, composes and arranges for his own original projects Rinoceronte [Brazilian funk/rock], The Common Thread [instrumental funk-jazz], and Systems Theory [Jazz-funk].  He also played for Celebrity Cruise Lines, touring throughout Central America and the Caribbean.  Andrew has been teaching both privately and at a variety of music schools for over 15 years.  His humour, personable approach, playful, creative, and effective teaching style are sought after and keep him highly in demand as an instructor.
