Elite Music Opens a New Location!

Elite MusicCan’t get enough of what Elite Music has to offer? No worries, our second location is officially open for business as of July 13th, 2009! It is because of your demand for our Music Academy and the Toronto Music Camp (check it out at www.torontomusiccamp.com); it has grown so much that we can’t contain it all in our one location. We are very proud to announce that the new location, just a little further east down the Danforth (address 2007, at Woodbine), will be entirely dedicated to our students and campers as a space for musical expression! With brand new studios and jam space, the Toronto Music Camp this summer will be bigger and better than ever before. And upon conclusion of the camp for the summer, we will be using the new location to host more lessons than ever as well as utilizing the jam space for, appropriately, jam sessions!

Our ability to open this new location has been because of the dedication from you, our fabulous patrons; we cannot wait to have you come and take advantage of our new facility and let the music ring out loud down the halls!

For more information concerning our new location, our music academy, or the Toronto Music Camp, please call us at 416-406-5355

Learn To Play The Bouzouki

WHO IS TASOS?

Tasos Issaakidis is a true maestro of the Greek Bouzouki. He has played over 20 years and taught for more than a decade. His educational background includes private advanced orchestration, arranging, and theory under prominent University music professor David Neale.

Learn to play the bouzouki, dispel all the myths, ensure success….

Learning to play the Greek bouzouki is similar in learning to play any other stringed instrument. In order to succeed, you need to have a good instrument, the right attitude, good practice habits and know what to practice.

Choosing the right instrument:

What makes a bouzouki a good instrument?

1)The action

The action is the height that the strings rest on top of the fretboard. The idea is that the lower the strings are on top of the fretboard, the easier it is to play. You need to have a bouzouki with low action otherwise your fingers will suffer. A high action bouzouki is very difficult to play and will make your hands cramp. Sometimes a high action bouzouki hides imperfections on the fretboard.

Learning Piano or keyboard ?

A question I get frequently is what is better to play? A piano or a keyboard? Ideally a piano is the way to go as nothing feels quite like a piano, the weight of the keys, the ‘action’ (the way the key moves) of the keys, the weight of the pedals, etc… However, realistically not everyone has the room or the money for a piano nor would anyone want to buy a piano and then find that they’re just not that interested in piano after all.

Keyboards are a great place to start or even stay depending on what you want. They have the advantage of being smaller, portable, a wider range of sounds and volume control. If you’re just starting out you can easily find a keyboard, used or new, for your needs. If you later decide to go on to a real piano there is a store that offers ’starter’ pianos. pianoexperts.com (the have a brick and mortar store in North York) refurbishes older upright pianos and sells them rather cheaply. After 2 years you can trade in for a better piano and 80% of the cost of you beginner piano will go towards your new piano.
Whatever you decide to play on it’s always a good idea to try it out first before taking the plunge and buying it. Go into the store and try out the keyboard/piano and play around with it. See if you like the sound a feel of it before putting any money down. If you’re still unsure, rent before you buy.
See you soon,
Elite Music Academy offers private piano and keyboard lessons at 822 Danforth Avenue in Toronto. All new students can receive a free one month keyboard rental upon registration. For a free consultation you may contact the main desk at 416 406 5355.
